Visually Speaking

Did you know that Gay City has a new location? Yep, and not only that, they’re now called Seattle’s LGBTQ+ Center? They’ve been through a lot of changes and the community is excited about it! Visually Speaking continues the collaboration and ASL Basics classes will be provided in their gorgeous new classroom, which is a safe space for anyone in the queer community! 
ANYONE with minimal or no sign language experience is more than welcome to join this fun and personalized 6-week course! American Sign Language (ASL) is an incredible skill for everyone as a handful of native signers live around Seattle and the world. Not only that, let's be honest - alternative communication is gorgeous and fantastic, right?!? This is the perfect opportunity to learn or practice essential vocabulary words, alphabet, numbers, facial expressions, and more topics so you can have fantastic conversations with queer signers? Throughout the course, you will be saturated in silence each week, which enhances your understanding of the Deaf culture and the language. In addition, students will learn from a DeafQueer instructor, who is also a native signer. In the end, you will likely have a boost in your confidence to converse using ASL in your everyday life! 

Note: Since the LGBTQ+ Center is partially a medical facility, we ask that you please respect the space by wearing face masks upon entry, however once in the classroom, facemasks are optional.
